TU Opens Applications for MPhil and PhD Program for Academic Year 2025 (2082/083)

Tribhuvan University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, announces the opening of admissions for M Phil-PhD level studies in various subjects for the academic year 2025 (2082/083).

Admission Details for MPhil / PhD

• Application Open: Chaitra 20, 2082 (April 03, 2026)
• Deadline for Admission Form Submission: Baisakh 19, 2083 (May 02, 2026) Up to 12 AM.
• Normal form fee: Rs. 5,000
• MPhil Entrance Exam: Baisakh 26, 2083 (May 09, 2026) from 8 AM to 11 AM.

Note:

Applicants can apply online by typing entrance.tufohss.edu.np in Google, selecting New Student Registration, and choosing their desired subject and central department/program. Applications that are late or incomplete will not be processed. Further details can be obtained from the faculty’s website.

MPhil and PhD programs are open for the following subjects 

Eligibility

a) Applicants must have completed a Master’s degree or equivalent in the relevant subject from Tribhuvan University or a recognized institution with at least a CGPA of 3.0 or Second Division.

b) Copies of mark sheets, certificates, transcripts from entrance level to Master’s level, and citizenship certificate must be submitted along with the application.

c) Applicants who have completed their degree from other universities must submit equivalence and migration certificates.

d) If an applicant wishes to apply in a subject different from their Master’s subject, they may apply only in subjects specified by the Dean’s Office as per the criteria set by the concerned central departments. The selected subject cannot be changed later.

Additional Information on Entrance Examination:

a) Applicants must pass the entrance examination conducted by the Dean’s Office to be eligible for admission. Admission will be granted based on merit ranking among successful candidates.

b) If fewer than 5 applicants apply for a subject, they may appear for the entrance exam in another subject approved by the subject committee. The Dean’s Office is not obligated to conduct exams for subjects with fewer than 5 applicants.

c) The written entrance exam will cover two areas: subject knowledge and research methodology (Full marks: 100). Duration: 3 hours. Only those who pass the written exam will be called for an interview. The final merit list will be prepared based on the combined scores of the written exam and the interview.

d) Maximum intake per subject: 35 students.

e) The interview notice will be published after the written exam results.
