ABOUT
PoU, SHAS has adopted four-year academic bachelor programs which are based on a credit-semester system with continuous internal evaluations. The academic year of the University consists of two semesters of 16 weeks each. The fall semester starts in September and the spring semester in March. Fresh Admissions are normally made at the beginning of the fall semester.
History
Pokhara University, established in 1997, began offering Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2001 with the launch of the Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (B Pharm) program under the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at its Nayabazar Pokhara Campus. The School soon relocated in 2003 to the Shwet Bhavan campus at Simalchaur, simultaneously undergoing a name change to the School of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences following the introduction of Medical Laboratory Technology (BSc MLT). Further expansion occurred in 2005 with the start of the M Pharm program in Natural Products Chemistry and Pharmaceutics, though it was briefly halted and later resumed in 2011.
The School finally moved to its current location at Dhungepatn in 2007, and its name evolved once more to the School of Health and Allied Sciences (SHAS) to accommodate the addition of Public Health and Nursing courses. The year 2011 also saw the resumption of the M Pharm program (Natural Products Chemistry) and the launch of a new major in Clinical Pharmacy, with the most recent course addition being Physiotherapy.
Vision
The University has fully understood that it has to partake and contribute in raising the living standard and improving the quality of life of the people to bring about the permanent peace, prosperity, and wellbeing in the country by contributing to create gainful employment opportunities, raising production and productivity, removing the drudgery on work with the promotion and use of indigenous, local and appropriate technologies by promoting and using sustainable energy and by changing the social psychology of the people towards sustainable development goals and social justice.
Mission
The mission of Pokhara University is to develop as a Centre of Excellence for Higher Education by excelling in teaching and learning, research and publication, and outreach activities; contributing to the national development process by producing job market-oriented, responsible, productive, service-oriented, and committed human resources; and linking the university system with the community services.
