The PhD in School Counseling and Wellbeing Psychology is a research-intensive program that integrates counseling psychology, wellbeing sciences, and socio-emotional learning to develop reflective and ethical practitioners. The program prepares scholars to understand and address students' diverse academic, emotional, and social needs while promoting holistic well-being in school environments.
Students engage with interdisciplinary theories and practices, strengthening their ability to conduct original research, apply culturally responsive approaches, and support systemic change within educational settings. The academic journey includes coursework, proposal development, qualifying assessments, fieldwork, journal publications, conference participation, thesis writing, and viva voce.
Full-time students typically complete research methodology courses in the first semester, present their research proposal, complete two qualifying papers, conduct fieldwork, publish two peer-reviewed articles, participate in relevant conferences, and complete the final thesis. Part-time students follow the pathway outlined in KU regulations.
Program outcomes include the ability to conceptualize research problems, critically assess scholarly literature, design and evaluate educational and wellbeing programs, conduct independent inquiry, and foster lifelong learning.
Eligibility
Minimum Qualification
- Minimum 17 years of formal education with a Master's or MPhil degree.
Accepted Academic Backgrounds
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, or Social Work with a major in Psychology, OR
- Master’s degree in any discipline with a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Psychology or Counseling Psychology, OR
- Master’s degree in Education or any discipline with at least 3 years of experience in educational settings
Academic Requirement
- Minimum CGPA 3.0 out of 4 (CGPA system) or minimum first division (yearly system).
Admission Criteria

Applicants must submit:

- A fully developed research concept note of around 5000 words (written in English)
- A research paper (published or unpublished) on a relevant topic
The Research Committee evaluates the concept note and the overall application. Additional factors considered include:
- Writing ability
- Quality of research proposal
- Past academic records
- Relevant work experience, if any
The Research Committee reserves full authority to select applicants based on scholarly merit and readiness for advanced research.
