Mayor Balen Shah has stated that due to the implementation of a law this year, more than 20,000 students within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City have received scholarships. He announced on Monday via Facebook that this year alone, 20,282 students received scholarships worth 2.25 billion rupees.

"In the first year of implementation, 13,000 students received scholarships, in the second year, 19,000, and this year, 16,980 students from grades 1 to 10 and 3,302 students from grade 11, totaling 20,282 students, received scholarships worth about 2.25 billion rupees," Balen noted.

According to him, 440 private schools have submitted details of the scholarships they provided this year to students from grades 1 to 10. Balen has notified that the permits of schools that fail to submit scholarship details will be revoked.

"Some schools have not submitted their details yet. We request that they submit the details as soon as possible. Schools that do not submit the details will be considered closed, and their permits or approvals will be revoked as per the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Education Act, 2075," he said.

He also mentioned that schools submitting false information will be punished. "We will also monitor the received details. If discrepancies are found, action will be taken according to the law. The importance of law-making is confirmed only through its implementation. Therefore, we are equally serious about both law-making and implementation," Balen stated. He also emphasized that his main objective is to make people feel that there is a rule of law.
