The 31st Convocation Ceremony of Kathmandu University (KU) in Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchok, is being held today. In the first phase, a total of 2,209 students are set to graduate, including 196 international students from 17 countries.
The ceremony will be presided over by the Prime Minister and University Chancellor, Sushila Karki, along with the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, and Co-Chancellor, Mahabir Pun. The Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, Professor Dhulipudi Pandit, will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address, according to Kathmandu University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle.
A total of 2,209 students will graduate this time, distributed across the university's schools as follows: 83 from the School of Arts, 294 from the School of Education, 340 from the School of Engineering, 36 from the School of Law, 378 from the School of Management, 881 from the School of Medical Sciences, and 197 from the School of Science. Among the graduates, 7 are from PhD, DM, and MCh levels, 397 are from the postgraduate level, 50 are from the PGD level, and 1,728 are from the undergraduate level.
The 196 international students graduating are from 17 countries: Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the UK, India, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Namibia, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, the USA, and Vietnam. Various medals will also be awarded during the ceremony.
With this first phase of the 31st convocation, the total number of graduates from Kathmandu University has reached 50,040. Of these, 5,860 are international students, representing approximately 12 percent of the total. The largest group of international graduates is from India. In total, 4,976 students from India have graduated during this period.
Similarly, other international graduates include 399 from Sri Lanka, 85 from the USA, 75 from the Maldives, 33 from Germany, 25 from Bangladesh, 21 from the UK, 21 from Canada, 20 from Bhutan, 19 from China, 18 from Zambia, 14 from South Africa, 13 from Pakistan, 10 from Australia, and 10 from Russia. Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle stated that students from a total of 58 countries have graduated in various disciplines to date.
