Kathmandu, October 4, 2025: The Government of Nepal, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, has announced a two-day nationwide public holiday on Ashoj 19 and 20, 2082. The decision comes in response to the high probability of heavy rainfall and subsequent disaster risks across the country.

A notice issued by Joint Secretary and Spokesperson Anand Kafle states that information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority indicates the possibility of significant precipitation in various regions during this period.
The holiday is being granted to mitigate risks from potential floods, inundation, and landslides caused by the heavy rain. Authorities are also factoring in the likelihood of disruption to road and air transport, and the potential for human harm.
Exemptions for Essential Services:
The public holiday will apply across the country, with the explicit exception of offices and personnel involved in disaster management and essential services, which will remain operational.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has strongly urged all citizens to exercise special caution and remain in safe locations, advising against leaving their homes during the two-day period unless it is for an absolutely necessary purpose.
