Numbur Vocational Training Center has started operating in the Solududhkunda Municipality of Solukhumbu. The building for the technical school, constructed through a cost-sharing partnership amounting to three and a half crore Nepali Rupees, has been inaugurated. Mayor Namgyal Jangbu Sherpa inaugurated the completed and well-equipped building located in Faplu, Solududhkunda Municipality-9.
The school, which was established through a cost-sharing model between the local government and the French donor group 'Solu Cham' and operates various technical education programs at the Lukla Mokshain Centre, has begun offering five technical courses. The school announced that it will provide free education, including food and lodging, to 60 students in the fields of stonemasonry, plumbing, electrician, hotel management, and cookery. This two-year course has received accreditation from CTEVT (Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training).
During the inauguration, Mayor Sherpa stated that the school, opened with the aim of contributing to the overall educational development of the district, would produce skilled manpower through technical studies, thus opening doors for employment within the country and preventing youth from migrating abroad by imparting self-employment skills.
The center, established with 20% funding from the Municipality and 80% from Solu Cham, is set to begin its second phase of training on Kartik 24 (November 10). This training will include modern laboratories and internship facilities for students aged 15 to 35.
Priority for admission was given to students from the municipality first, and then to those from the rest of the district. The selected students are attending classes in residence. The technical school has arranged free food and accommodation for all students, who are taught by ten instructors from Kathmandu and Biratnagar.
Students are required to study compulsory subjects including English, Information Technology, Mathematics, Management, and Accountancy. Following the training, support and consultation regarding employment and entrepreneurship will also be provided. The railway training for 30 students from the first phase is currently underway, and the training institution will operate until 2027.
Meanwhile, a five-year long-term cooperation agreement worth 11 crore 23 lakhs 75 thousand Nepali Rupees has been reached between the Municipality and Solu Cham from the current time.
The students expressed that they feel fortunate to be able to study for free within the district, stating that many are unable to pursue professional education due to high costs. A student undergoing training in the Electronics department expressed great happiness, saying they can now do repair work even while staying at home.
The event was also attended by Solu Cham Chairman, Deputy Mayor of Solududhkunda Municipality, Chief District Officer, and Coordinator of the Social Development Committee of Solududhkunda Municipality, who collectively declared the establishment of the school as a matter of pride for the district.
