Tribhuvan University Initiates Online Study for Migrant Students
Degrees Offered in Nepal

Tribhuvan University (TU) has initiated an online study and examination programme for Nepali youths working in labour destination countries, to expand their access to quality higher education.

The initiative is expected to benefit young people who left their studies incomplete before going abroad for employment. It was introduced under the Tribhuvan University Policy and Programme-2082, endorsed by the TU Assembly on Wednesday.

According to TU Rector Prof. Dr. Khadga KC, the programme specifically targets youths who discontinued their education and migrated for work. TU has partnered with the Open and Distance Education Centre (ODEC), which has long operated under TU to promote distance learning.

ODEC, established in 2015 by a decision of TU’s Executive Council, is an independent constituent academic body of the university and has been providing distance education through online platforms.

Under the new scheme, individuals in labour destination countries will be able to enroll in colleges that offer non-practical subjects. For examinations, TU will coordinate with Nepali embassies abroad to conduct in-person exams, as outlined in the TU Policy and Programme-2028 made public on Wednesday. Rector KC stated that TU will soon begin discussions with embassies to operationalize the plan.
