KATHMANDU β The Medical Education Commission has allocated MBBS seats to two new institutions for the first time, following a recent meeting. The commission, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, decided to grant 50 MBBS seats each to the Madan Bhandari Academy of Health Sciences (MBAHS) in Hetauda and the Purbanchal University's Medical College.
In addition to the new MBBS allocations, the Madan Bhandari Academy of Health Sciences will also see an increase in its B.Sc. Nursing seats. The commission approved an additional 10 seats, bringing the total from 20 to 30.
Dr. Pradip Gyawali, the Vice-Chancellor of the academy, confirmed that while he had not received the formal decision, he was informed that the academy would receive 50 MBBS seats and an additional 10 nursing seats.
Purbanchal University's medical college plans to use Koshi Hospital as its teaching hospital, an agreement that was made two years ago.
The meeting on Thursday also approved an increase in the number of seats for private medical colleges. The commission decided to add a total of 495 MBBS seats and 562 nursing seats across various private institutions.
