Mahendra Model Secondary School, Khalanga

Located in the remote geography of Far-Western Nepal, in Khalanga of Mahakali Municipality, Darchula, Mahendra Secondary School stands as a leading, prestigious, and model educational institution in the region, carrying historical significance as a tri-border area. Established on Shrawan 27, 2017 B.S., on the auspicious occasion of Janai Purnima as a middle school, the institution has continued its journey of spreading education to this day.

Following its establishment, the school gradually expanded and began operating secondary-level classes in 2025 B.S., achieving the historic milestone of sending students to participate in the SLC examination for the first time. Since 2028 B.S., it has been functioning as an official SLC examination center, consistently maintaining its academic credibility.

Adapting to changing times, the school introduced Grades 11 and 12 in 2050/051 B.S. In 2062 B.S., it was honored with the title of “Model School” by the then Higher Secondary Education Council, marking a significant achievement. In 2073 B.S., it was merged with Khalanga Primary School, and from 2074 B.S., English-medium instruction was introduced, further enhancing the quality of education.

The school has also taken strides in technical and vocational education. Since 2075 B.S., it has been offering a Diploma in Civil Engineering, and since 2077 B.S., a Pre-Diploma program, guiding students toward practical and skill-based learning.

Currently, the school has a dedicated team of over 70 teachers and 25 staff members, ensuring effective teaching and learning. With a comprehensive academic structure ranging from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to Grade 12, along with technical streams, the school continues to provide inclusive, quality, and practical education.

Additionally, the school operates hostel facilities to support students who are orphaned or come from distant areas. Notably, free hostel services are provided for students without guardians, significantly contributing to their educational continuity and overall development.
